Established in 2007, Johnnie Girl Publishing is the brainchild of writer, editor, and dreamer, Halima Lee. The company was born out of Lee’s keen desire to maintain creative control while producing inspiring and entertaining works of fiction. Named in honor of her late grandmother, Johnnie Rivers, Johnnie Girl Publishing strives to showcase a variety of tales that seek to impart valuable life lessons. Furthermore, it intends to produce literature in multiple genres — specifically young adult, contemporary, Christian, and historical fiction.
In addition to being a book publisher, Lee offers a wide range of editorial services under the Johnnie Girl imprint. Her qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from the University of California, Berkeley, and a certification in editing from the university’s extension program. Lee has worked as a freelance writer and editor since 2004, with a primary goal to maintain the integrity of each client’s vision, while ensuring the accuracy, efficacy, and concision of their work.
Writing under the name H.L. Sweatte, How To Bake a Cupcake is Lee’s first offering under the Johnnie Girl imprint. The company does not
currently publish works by other authors, but plans to open its doors to fresh, intelligent voices in the future.
